  • Arizona, North Carolina Among Those Standing Out for Zion Williamson

Zion Williamson, the 6-foot-7 Class of 2018 forward from Spartanburg (S.C.) High, showed out at Saturday night’s Under Armour Elite 24 Game, going for 23 points on 10-for-10 shooting with six rebounds.

A day before, Williamson won the Dunk Contest.

His father, Lee, played at Clemson, one of several schools now recruiting Zion.

“I feel like Arizona, Oregon, North Carolina, South Carolina, Clemson and NC State,” he told Evan Daniels of Scout.com in terms of schools recruiting him hard. “I feel like those schools are telling me I’m the man.”

Arizona was mentioned by several players in the Elite 24 Game as a school recruiting them hard, including 2017 point guard Trevon Duval and 2017 big man Nick Richards.

    Williamson echoed those sentiments.

“I’d say Arizona because they are across the country and they’ve had Aaron Gordon,” he told Scout “I have similar athleticism, but not like him. Then they had Stanley Johnson. I liked the way they used those two, so they stick out to me.”

Williamson and his father also both listed North Carolina head coach Roy Williams as working hard in the process.

“We have a strong relationship,” Williamson told Scout. “It’s almost like a second dad or an uncle.

“They always talk about family and that’s what I love about them the most,” he added. “Everything is family. They said if I come to North Carolina, I’m North Carolina for life. Everything is family.”

Williamson further told Scout he plans to take several visits this fall.

“I plan on taking visits to Clemson, South Carolina, NC State, North Carolina during football season because they are around,” he said. “I’m going to try and take one to Arizona and Oregon maybe during basketball season so I can watch their team.”
