A Kansas Jayhawk hit a shot at the buzzer to propel his team to victory, only this time it wasn’t National Player of the Year candidate Frank Mason.
Instead, Svi Mykhailiuk played the role of hero on Tuesday in Kansas’ 90-88 win over rival Kansas State.
The 6-foot-8 junior might have gotten away with a traveling violation in the process.
“I don’t know, I really don’t know,” he said as he fought back laughter and his teammates openly laughed.
Asked what he saw on the replay, he added: “It was a good basket.”
“I haven’t seen it so I don’t know if he walked or not,” Kansas coach Bill Self said on the podium. “I know everybody said he did, so at least I know that some people said he did so he may have, I don’t know. But it was still a heck of an athletic play to get all the way to the hole on two bounces, I think.”
Said Kansas State coach Bruce Weber: “I think everybody knows here what happened. You wanna see my phone? There’s 100 [text messages] on each of them. I think that everyone knows, but it didn’t happen. We had our chance, they made a play, and they got the win.”

Kansas has now won 13 straight and 50 straight at home. They don’t face a ranked team until visiting West Virginia in three weeks. Kansas does host Texas Tech on Saturday after Tech knocked off No. 7 West Virginia, 77-76, on Tuesday. Mykhailiuk, projected as the No. 33 pick in the upcoming NBA Draft per Draft Express, scored 11 points for Kansas, who has now won 47 straight games at Allen Fieldhouse.
