CHICAGO – Brandon McCoy, the 6-foot-11 power forward from Cathedral Catholic (CA) High School, said Wednesday that he might make his college decision in the next couple of weeks. McCoy, who played in the McDonald’s All-American Game Wednesday, finished the game with 13 points, 7 rebounds 4 blocks and 4 steals, as the West Team defeated the East Team 109-107 in overtime.
“Right now, I don’t really know,” said McCoy. “I might make my decision in the next couple of weeks. Right now, I’m just focused on doing well in these games. The next one is the Jordan Brand Classic.
McCoy, who is considering San Diego State, UNLV, Oregon, Michigan State, and Arizona broke down his thoughts on Oregon and SDSU.
“Oregon, they’re making history out there,” he said. “They hadn’t made the Final Four in 78 years but they’re now in it. Obviously, coach Dana Altman knows what he’s talking about.
“[San Diego State coach] Steve Fisher is a great coach. He coached the Fab Five and coached Chris Webber, one of my favorite players of all-time.”
He was also asked about Michigan State coach Tom Izzo and what makes him such a great coach.
“What doesn’t make him a great coach?” McCoy said. “He’s a Hall-of-Famer, a great person. He really cares for his players and he’s a winner.”
McCoy is also considering UNLV and Arizona but didn’t break down either school.
