Trey Wertz, the 6-foot-5 shooting guard from Providence Day (NC) School, told ZAGSBLOG on Tuesday that Santa Clara, Boston College, Princeton, Missouri, and Penn are making him a priority in this stage of his recruitment. He broke down each school:

Santa Clara: “They have a really good coach in Coach [Herb] Sendek who has coached many pros such as James Harden, and their style of play fits how I play. They said when I get there they would want me almost to be their Harden in a way, and that resonated with me. It’s also a great academic school in a great part of the country.”

Boston College: “Coach [Jim] Christian has them moving in a positive direction right now, and he feels I can come in and help them right away. His goal is to get in the thick of the ACC, and he feels I am someone who can help them achieve that from day one. It’s also a great academic school.”

Princeton: “It’s an Ivy league education, and they were atop the league last year, and they want to continue that success moving forward. They feel Jaelyn Llewellyn, and I could make a backcourt that could help them win an Ivy for the years we are there.”

Missouri: “They brought in a really good recruiting class this year, but they are going to graduate their shooting guard and likely lose Michael Porter Jr. So they need someone to come in and play right away, and they feel I can satisfy that need.”

Penn: “It’s an Ivy education as well, and they have been preaching about the history of the program and how they want to get back to the top. They feel I’m a player that can help them do that.”

Wertz also mentioned there are multiple schools who have been expressing recent interest. “Murray State, UMASS, UCLA, TCU, Vanderbilt, Temple, and Memphis are a couple of schools who have come on late,” Wertz stated.

As for visits, Wertz is hoping to plan a couple of visits around the late September-early October range. Regarding a timetable for a commitment, Wertz said, “Hopefully the first week of November but if I’m not ready, I won’t rush it.”

According to 247Sports.com, Wertz is a three-star prospect and the No. 14 player in the state of North Carolina.
