Louis King to Oregon

Louis King, the 6-foot-8 small forward from Hudson Catholic and Team Final, committed to Oregon on Thursday.

King took his only official visit to the Pac-12 school earlier this month and then hosted Ducks head coach Dana Altman and assistant Mike Mennenga on a home visit.

“The campus was mind-blowing,” his mother, Ativea King, previously told ZAGSBLOG. “Their message was to come in and be a key piece to what they are wanting to accomplish.”

King chose Oregon over Kansas, Purdue, N.C. State and Seton Hall.

King joins 6-foot-9 Brewster (N.H.) Academy big man Miles Norris in Oregon’s 2018 class. The Ducks also hosted Canadian point guard Luguentz Dort when King was on campus. Oregon is also involved for 2018 guards R.J. Barrett of Montverde (FL) Academy, who takes his official this weekend, and Eric Ayala of IMG Academy (FL). Altman visited both this week in Florida.

King becomes the second player on his high school team to pledge to a Pac-12 school after point guard Jahvon Quinerly picked Arizona in August.

King was one of several high school players selected this summer to the U.S. U19 team that won a bronze medal under Kentucky coach John Calipari at the FIBA U19 World Championships in Cairo, Egypt. He averaged 6.1 points and 4.4 rebounds in seven games.

“He has an unique ability to be a team’s best defender, best facilitator or best scorer,” Team Final coach Aaron Burt said of King. “His versatility and skill set is of a Scottie Pippen-type. He loves to compete and wants to be great. He’s growing from a great role player and he’s transitioning to be a really good go to guy. He loves to win so he’s always ready to play.

King is now the second Team Final player to commit to a high-major D-1 program after guard Cam Reddish previously selected Duke.

With King and Quinerly off the board, that leaves Hudson Catholic shooting guard Luther Muhammad as the team’s last remaining uncommitted player. He’s considering Ohio State, St. John’s, Virginia, West Virginia and Xavier and is slated to visit West Virginia this coming weekend for his final official.
