EJ Montgomery, the 6-foot-10 power forward from Wheeler (GA) High School, decommitted from Auburn on Wednesday, his father, EJ Montgomery Sr., told Scout.
“We are going to open EJ’s recruitment back up,” Montgomery Sr., said. “He hasn’t really gone through the process of being recruited and he wants to experience that.”
Montgomery’s decommitment comes one day after news broke on Tuesday, regarding an FBI probe into separate incidents with an Auburn assistant and three other college basketball coaches. Auburn assistant coach Chuck Person was suspended without pay on Tuesday.
According to 247Sports, Montgomery is ranked as the No. 25 overall player in the Class of 2018 and the No. 2 player from the state of Georgia. Before committing to Auburn, Montgomery held offers from schools such as Baylor, Florida State, Miami, NC State, and UCLA, among others.
With Montgomery’s decommitment, Auburn loses their only recruit in their 2018 class. Montgomery first committed to Auburn on September 22, 2016.
“We are just going to open it up and see who comes and kind of go from there,” Montgomery Sr., added.
