Roselle Catholic, which figures to be one of the top teams in New Jersey again this year, saw two of its players sign National Letters of Intent on Monday.
Naz Reid, the 6-foot-11 forward ranked No. 18 in the 2018 ESPN 100, signed with LSU as part of their three-man class that also includes point guard Javonte Smart (ESPN No. 32) and power forward Darius Days (ESPN No. 68). Reid committed in September.
“Naz is one of the most unique kids I’ve ever seen,” RC coach Dave Boff said. “At 6-11 and 250 pounds he can handle and pass like a guard and we’ll give him those opportunities this year. He’ll certainly have the ball in his hands on the perimeter and be pushing the break a lot this year.”
Reid played this past summer for Sports U and averaged 14.1 points, 9.9 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game. For Roselle Catholic as a junior he averaged 13.8 points and 9.1 rebounds a contest.
“We are happy to have Naz Reid joining our LSU basketball family,” said Coach Will Wade. “He is a player that brings a combination of strength, length and a shooting touch with him that will have an immediate impact on our program next season. He has the type of game that will easily transfer to college play when he arrives at LSU. We look forward to working with him and adding to his game to prepare him for the next level.”
Ithiel Horton, the 6-3 guard who transferred to Roselle Catholic after St. Anthony’s closed, had interest from high-major schools but chose Delaware in September because of his comfort level with the staff. “Ithiel Horton is one of the if not the most underrated players I’ve seen,” Boff said. “Delaware is getting a huge steal in him.
