Graduate transfer Geno Thorpe has left the Syracuse basketball program for personal reasons, the school announced Friday.
The 6-foot-4 Thorpe, who also spent two years at Penn State and one at South Florida before transferring to Syracuse, was averaging 6.0 points per game in 14.3 minutes per game.
Thorpe was supposed to help complement the team’s returning and incoming backcourt players, including Frank Howard, Tyus Battle and Howard Washington.
Battle (19.7 ppg) and Howard (15.7 ppg) are both averaging more than 32 minutes per game.
Syracuse plays No. 2 Kansas in Miami on Saturday.
