Schnider Herard, the 6-foot-10 sophomore center from Mississippi State, will transfer to Maryland, he announced Saturday via Twitter. He will have one and a half years of eligibility remaining and is likely to enroll in January.
“The reason why is because they’ve been doing a really good job with big guys the last few years,” Herard told 247Sports. “I’ve been watching them this year and some clips from last year and they’ve been really successful with big guys.”
Herard’s commitment comes one day after returning from his official visit to Maryland. He also took visits to Baylor and Illinois, but ultimately decided on the Terrapins.
As a freshman with Mississippi State, Herard averaged 5.1 points and 5.0 rebounds in 18.6 minutes per game. During the first semester this season, Herard averaged a point and 2.1 rebounds a game.
According to 247Sports, Herard was the No. 47 overall player in the Class of 2016 when he joined Mississippi State as a freshman. He averaged just eight minutes in 11 games this season and announced his intentions to transfer in late December.
