Ochai Agbaji, the 6-foot-5 small forward from Oak Park (MO) High School, announced his commitment to Kansas on Thursday at his high school. The announcement was broadcast live by KUHoops.com.
“I’m going to [The University of Kansas] just because it’s a great program, has a great background, nice winning culture and I think I can fit in there,” Agbaji told 247Sports on Thursday. “Throughout the whole month of January they were looking at me and recruiting me hard.”
He first received an offer from Kansas during an unofficial visit earlier this month (Feb. 3) to watch the Jayhawks in a 79-84 home loss to Oklahoma State.
“Just being able to play for a top school,” he said when asked what set him over the top. “That’s always been a dream of mine. It’s a honor that they want me to play for them.”
According to 247Sports, Agbaji is ranked as the No. 328 overall player in the Class of 2018 and the No. 11 player from the state of Missouri. He joins Quentin Grimes, Devon Dotson, and David McCormack as the fourth commit in the Jayhawks’ 2018 class.
“I can bring, what [Bill] Self wants,” Agbaji said. “A tough guy, defensive minded, a shooter, I can shoot the ball and just a guy that is going to work hard for my teammates.”
Agbaji chose Kansas over schools such as Oregon State, Colorado State, Nebraska, Oregon, Texas A&M, Wisconsin, Oklahoma State, Northern Iowa, and Air Force, among others. He also received interest from schools such as Iowa State, Kansas State, Texas, and West Virginia.
