Kentucky freshman guard Quade Green did not mince words when asked about the Wildcats’ regular-season finale this Saturday at Florida (12 p.m. ET, CBS).
“Now, we gotta go to Florida and spank them,” Green said.
Kentucky has won four straight games directly on the heels of a four-game losing streak. Green, averaging 13.5 points and 3.8 assists on 58 percent shooting over these last four contests, emphasized that the Wildcats are seeking revenge after Florida’s 66-64 College Gameday win at Rupp Arena on January 20.
“We gotta go in and get them,” Green said. “You ain’t gonna come in our house and beat us, so we gotta get you back.”
Saturday’s matchup carries major implications for SEC Tournament seeding. Kentucky, Florida, and Arkansas are currently locked in a three-way tie for third place in the SEC at 10-7 behind Auburn and Tennessee (both 12-5).
The Gators have rebounded from a three-game losing streak by beating Auburn at home and Alabama on the road in consecutive games.
The coveted double-bye is at stake in what was already expected to be a highly animated atmosphere in Gainesville. All Green did was pour gasoline on the fire.
“We got one for them,” Green said. “It’s going to be a war at 12 o’clock. It’s on the back of our minds. It starts now.”
