Donovan Williams, the 6-foot-5 shooting guard from Lawrence E. Elkins (TX) High School, announced his commitment to Shaka Smart and the Texas Longhorns on Wednesday via Twitter. He took his official visit to Texas on September 7.
Smart and Texas assistant Jai Lucas had an in-home visit with Williams on Wednesday morning.
“I am thankful for this game and the experiences and memories that have come along with it,” said Williams in a statement released via Twitter. “I am grateful for all the people I have met [on] this journey that have helped along the way. After careful consideration, I’ve decided to commit to The University of Texas. #HookEm.”
According to 247Sports, Williams is ranked as the No. 111 overall player in the Class of 2019 and the No. 10 player from the state of Texas. He is the first commit in the Longhorns’ 2019 class.
Williams, who cut his list to five in August, chose Texas over Arizona State, Texas A&M, Miami, and Georgia. In addition to his Texas visit, Williams also took an official to Arizona State (Aug. 31).
