Anthony Leal, the 6-foot-5 shooting guard from Bloomington South (IN), announced his commitment to Indiana on Friday, via Twitter.
“The biggest deciding factors were being able to be a hometown kid and make my dreams come true,” Leal told ZAGSBLOG Friday. “It came down to being a part of something bigger than myself and hopefully inspiring kids like me, growing up here.
Leal didn’t take his official visit to Indiana but took multiple unofficial visits.
“Since I live three to four miles away from campus, I’ve just done unofficial visits,” said Leal. “Seeing what coach [Archie] Miller and his staff have in store was exciting for me.
“I got to see their plan and vision for the program,” he said. “Seeing the tradition, the pride and passion behind wearing the Indiana jersey was something special for me.”
Leal chose Indiana over Stanford after cutting his list of schools in July. He joins Trey Galloway as the second commit in the Hoosiers’ 2020 class.
“It’s a dream come true to be able to call myself a Hoosier,” said Leal. “It was an offer I wasn’t able to pass up and I’m glad I didn’t.”
According to 247Sports, Leal is ranked as the No. 96 overall player in the Class of 2020 and the No. 1 player from the state of Indiana.
“I’m most excited to be a part of something bigger than myself,” said Leal. “To be able to call myself part of the Hoosier community, I hope to continue to put pride into what it means to be a Hoosier and inspire kids like me.”
