Three-Star point guard Ryan Conway has committed to Seton Hall, he tells ZAGSBLOG.

The 6-foot-1, 160-pound Class of 2021 point guard from Dulaney (MD), chose Seton Hall over Vanderbilt, Providence, Marquette, Stanford and Rutgers.

“They’ve done really great with guards in the past,” Conway said. “They’ve been there from the start. They were one of the first high-majors to start recruiting me. Just the loyalty and the transparency they brought through the process is what made me pick my decision.”

Conway is ranked as the No. 21 point guard and No. 133 overall player in the Class of 2021, per 247Sports.com.

“Ryan committing to Seton Hall gives them a dynamic scoring point guard with elite work ethic and basketball IQ,” Dulaney coach Matt Lochte said. “The kid is a stud! He will absolutely thrive in the Big East. I can’t wait to see him in a Pirates uniform.”

Conway was originally scheduled to make his choice on Saturday, but after deliberating with his family continued to give it thought throughout the weekend.

“I feel like I’m going to fit in great,” Conway said. “Ever since [Kevin Willard] has gotten there, they’ve been phenomenal in terms of winning. They’ve had a winning culture the last couple of years.”

The Pirates were on their way to their fifth straight NCAA Tournament and were projected as a 3 or 4 seed before the Big Dance was canceled by the pandemic.

Conway is Seton Hall’s first commit in 2021.

The Pirates have four pledges in 2020 in shooting guard Dimingus Stevens and point guard Jahari Long. They are also bringing in transfers Tray Jackson and Bryce Aiken. Jackson must sit the upcoming season per NCAA transfer rules (unless the rule changes, while Aiken is immediately available as a graduate transfer.

“I just look forward to continuing the winning nature that they’ve brought,” Conway said. “Going there will be a great opportunity to continue the winning nature that they have.”

He added: “They’re getting a scoring point guard that gets his teammates involved. [I’m] an improved defender, a leader on the court and willing to do whatever it takes to win.”

Conway took an unofficial visit to Seton Hall on March 4.

“I’m just excited to get out in that crowd. Their games are very live,” Conway said. “I’m excited to get to know my teammates and continue upon the winning that they’ve done in past years.”

“I’ve watched coach Willard from afar and he’s a coach that I feel I can develop really well.”
