Jose Perez, the 6-foot-5 sophomore guard from Gardner-Webb, announced he will transfer to Marquette.

The New York City native and former PSA Cardinals standout will have to sit one year to play two unless he’s granted a waiver.

“Next year I’ll be attending Marquette University,” he said on Instagram. “We’re going to get a Big East ‘chip.”

Perez said he chose Marquette because he gets “to play close to home and get to see his mom.”

“I get to play at the Garden vs. St. John’s,” he said.

Perez, who averaged 15.2 points, 6.5 rebounds and 4.2 assists, also considered Memphis, Georgia Tech, Illinois and Iowa State.

Beginning in 2021-22, Perez will team up with Ohio State transfer D.J. Carton.

“In the backcourt, me and D.J. are going to be nasty,” Perez said.
