Monmouth scored a big in-state commitment on Saturday when Myles Ruth of Don Bosco Prep pledged to the Hawks.
The 6-foot-1, 150-pound Ruth also considered Bryant, St. Bonaventure and St. Peter’s.
“I committed to Monmouth because of the coaching staff,” he said, “They made me feel very wanted and they also have the resources to take me to the next level
“I also wanted to stay close to home so I can build a name for myself in New Jersey. I plan to bring my defensive and offensive skills as well as a true point guard IQ.”
Ruth, who runs with Team Rio on the Under Armour circuit, averaged 13.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 2.3 steals while shooting 53 percent from the field for Bosco this season.
“Monmouth is getting a tremendous player and more importantly an outstanding young man,” Bosco coach Kevin Diverio said. “He is a competitor. He’s tenacious on the defensive end and explosive offensively. “He possesses the ability to create his own shot and create for teammates. His ability to consistently break down his defender and get into the paint creates havoc for opposing defenses.”
Monmouth also adds small forward Jack Holmstrom and power forward Myles Foster in 2020. They are losing former Cardozo guard Ray Salnave to transfer.
