Jaylen Blakes has seen his recruitment heat up in recent weeks.

The 6-foot-2, 195-pound sharp-shooting junior guard from Blair (N.J.) Academy has recently had Zoom calls with Texas, Yale, Harvard, Stanford, DePaul, UConn and Virginia Tech. He broke down several of his top suitors for ZAGSBLOG.

DePaul: “Coach [Dave] Leitao and the coaching staff shared how I fit into their up-tempo style of play and reinforced their commitment to player development. They recognize my value and the impact that I can have as a lead guard.”

Harvard: “Coach [Tommy] Amaker sees me as a special and unique individual with strong defensive and leadership skills that will allow me to impact the game, university and community in a positive way.”

Stanford: “Coach [Jerod] Hasse and the coaching staff took me on a virtual campus tour. Based on the games they attended they are confident that I will fit their defensive-minded and winning culture.”

Texas: “Coach [Shaka] Smart emphasized the importance of connecting and building relationships. They see me as an impact player on both ends of the floor fitting into their culture of ‘relationship, growth and victory.’”

UConn: “Coach [Dan] Hurley’s basketball knowledge and desire to win came through on our virtual call. He is looking forward to a Final Four run and can see me as a part of the process to achieve this goal.”

Virginia Tech: “During the zoom call with Coach [Mike] Young they expressed how excited they are about my game and how I can make an immediate impact with both my intensity and competitiveness.”

Yale: “On the Zoom call with Coach [James] Jones and the entire coaching staff I could really tell they studied my game. They pointed out how I can add value to their style of play and winning culture and reinforced their commitment to develop me as a player.”
