Benny Williams, the 6-foot-9, 185-pound forward from St. Andrew’s Episcopal School (MD), has committed to Syracuse.
“I picked Syracuse because of the relationship I’ve built with the coaches over two years, especially coach Red [Autry] and [Jim] Boeheim and I can see myself playing in their system,” he said.
After cutting his list to four earlier this month, Williams chose Syracuse over Georgetown, Maryland and Miami.
Williams is the first commit in Syracuse’s 2021 class.
His commitment comes just one day after 2020 big man Frank Anselem committed to Syracuse.
Kevin Jones coaches Williams and discussed his upside and skillset earlier this month. “Benny is a very talented wing,” Jones said by phone. “”He can handle the ball, passes it, can shoot it extremely well. He’s just a very talented kid who’s gotten better from day one in our program. The kid works extremely hard. “He has the ability to switch defensively from guard to wing spot. His best basketball is ahead of him.” This story has been updated.
