Class of 2021 forward Garrett Johnson has committed to Princeton, he tells ZAGSBLOG.

“They were the first school to ever recruit me and the relationship I’ve built with the staff over the last three years just made me feel very comfortable,” he said. “In addition, I feel like I’ll fit right into their system and make an impact from day one.

“They’re obviously a great academic institution as well.”

Johnson, the 6-foot-7, 190-pound small forward from Episcopal (VA) High School, has numerous unofficial visits to Princeton, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, he has been unable to take his official visit.

“They were all unofficial so whenever the COVID stuff gets cleared up I’ll do my official,” he said.

Johnson chose Princeton over offers from Brown, Charleston, East Carolina, Elon, Fairfield, Furman, George Mason, George Washington, Holy Cross, Loyola-Chicago, Mount St. Mary’s, North Carolina-Wilmington, Penn, Quinnipiac, Richmond, Towson, UMass-Lowell, Vermont, William & Mary, Xavier and Yale, among others.

Johnson also told ZAGSBLOG what he’s most excited for at Princeton.

“Definitely winning Ivy League championships and getting a world-class degree.”

He is the first commit in Princeton’s 2021 class.

“Getting to know the team was really cool because I felt like I could fit right in with them,” Johnson said. “Definitely that in combination with the growing success of the Ivy League and how committed they are to having a great basketball program.”
