Jalen Miller, the 6-foot-3, 190-pound point guard from Bishop Walsh (MD), committed to Rutgers on Friday.
Ranked the No. 51 point guard in the Class of 2021 by 247Sports.com and No. 7 in Washington, D.C., Miller also had offers from Iona, Rhode Island, James Madison and Colgate, among others.
“Yessir,” he said. “I picked Rutgers because I have built a strong relationship between my family, Coach [Steve] Pikiell, and the staff, which I believe can and will help me elevate my game in every way possible in order to allow me to achieve my dreams and goals in life. That goes for both basketball-wise and academically.”
Miller, who averaged 15 points, 10 assists and 5.5 rebounds last season, joins shooting guard Jaden Jones in Rutgers’ 2021 class.
“My skill set includes an all-around game,” Miller said. “I love to play on both sides of the ball. My strengths are usually getting to the rim, but over the course of the last season, I’ve expanded my arsenal with my jump shot, mid-range, and shots off the dribble. But I take the most pride in being a leader, facilitator, and a hard-nosed defender. I will do whatever I need to in order to make my team successful.”
Added Bishop Walsh coach Dan Prete: “Jalen is going to be a great fit at Rutgers. He is a strong-bodied true point guard who can play very many styles. He is very skilled, but one of the most important aspects of his game is that he is an extreme competitor. He has a passion to compete and win.”
