TJ Caldwell, the nation’s No. 127 overall prospect in the class of 2022, has committed to Ole Miss, he tells ZAGSBLOG.
“The main factors came down to the coaching staff, the relationships I had with them, the team, the visits I took and the environment,” Caldwell said. “Then obviously the basketball program itself.”
Caldwell, the 6-foot-4, 170-pound shooting guard from Waxahachie (TX) Faith Family Academy and the Drive Nation AAU Program, chose Ole Miss over Oklahoma, West Virginia, TCU, Mississippi State, USC, Arizona State and Maryland.
He took his official visit to Oxford from Sept. 17-19, attending a practice and building a strong relationship with the coaching staff.
“They just recruited me really hard on my visit,” Caldwell said. “I have a strong relationship with all the coaches. They love me. They factor in my development a lot. When I went to the practice, the team acted as if I was already one of their players. It was just the place to be.”
Caldwell says he hopes to bring in four-star forward Jalen Reed, who was also in Oxford for his official visit from the 17th to the 19th.
“He experienced everything I did on the visit,” Caldwell said. “I just told him it’s the place to be. It seemed like he had fun too.”
Caldwell joins shooting guards Nick Krass and Robert Cowherd in the Rebels’ 2022 recruiting class.
“I think with the guards coming back next year, we’ll have a good team,” he said.
Ranked by 247Sports.com as the No. 16 shooting guard in the class of 2022, Caldwell is an athletic guard that can shoot the ball consistently.
“I’m a fun player, leader on the court and I hope to lead them to the national championship next year,” he said.
