Illinois junior center Kofi Cockburn, the 2021-22 Big Ten Preseason Player of the Year, has been suspended three games by the NCAA for NIL violations.
Cockburn will miss games against Jackson State, Arkansas State and the contest against Marquette in the Gavitt Tip-off Games.
Cockburn was suspended for selling “institutionally issued apparel and memorabilia” prior to July 1, when the NIL rules were adopted allowing college athletes to profit off their Name, Image and Likeness.
Illinois star Kofi Cockburn has been suspended by the NCAA for the first three games of the season for selling “institutionally issued apparel and memorabilia” in June. Would have been permissible under NIL, but it happened before July 1.
