Tyrese Proctor, the 6-foot-4 Class of 2023 guard from the NBA Global Academy, is the latest high-profile recruit to commit to coach Jon Scheyer and Duke.
Proctor, who is playing for the World Team in the Nike Hoop Summit in Portland, Ore. this week, chose the Blue Devils over Arizona and the NBA G League on Thursday.
“Tyrese is in the mold of terrific young Australian guards like the Thunder’s Josh Giddey and future NBA first round pick, Dyson Daniels,” ESPN’s Fran Fraschilla told ZAGSBLOG. “He’s a smooth, skilled, versatile big guard.”
He joins a 4-man recruiting class for Duke that is ranked No. in 2023 by 247Sports.com. The class could grow by one more on Friday when 6-8 wing Mackenzie Mgbako of Gill St. Bernard’s and the NJ Scholars Nike EYBL program announces his decision. He is also considering Kentucky, Memphis and Ohio State. Duke also has a 6-man class ranked No. 1 in 2022.
“Ever since I first stepped on campus at Duke, it just felt like home,” Proctor told Joe Tipton of on3.com.
“Me and my family talked while I was back in Sydney, and they’re happy, and I’m happy. It just felt like home.”
As for what skillset he will bring, he told the site:
“Just come in and help the team win. I can do my part by scoring the ball, finding my teammates when they need to be found, and just overall getting the job done,” he said.
