KANSAS CITY – Class of 2023 forward Scotty Middleton will now announce his commitment Aug. 6.

Middleton, the 6-foot-6, 180-pound small forward from Sunrise Christian (KS) Academy and Team BBE, is considering a top five of Kansas, Seton Hall, Ohio State, Texas A&M and UConn. He broke down each program:

Kansas: “They started recruiting me back before I went to Sunrise. They won a national championship, so obviously they know what they’re doing over there. They just put two guys in the league, so it’s a very special program. They mean a lot to me in my recruitment.”

Seton Hall: “They have a new staff. They made a big run at St. Peter’s, so obviously there’s some momentum with them right now. So it was good to be on campus, finally see what they are about, talk to the coaches, talk to the players, just see all the developments and stuff like that.”

Ohio State: “I think they offered me maybe like mid Sunrise season. They started recruiting me hard. When I got on campus they started showing me everything, showing me all the guys, all the NBA players that come back. I just talked to guys and played pickup with them. It’s just little things that get you into the league.”

UConn: “A lot of great players come out of UCONN. It was really good to get on campus and see the structure, everything that coach Hurley does and things he does well.”

Texas A&M: “I never visited. They have recruited me, but nothing too crazy.”

Middleton has already taken official visits to Ohio State, Seton Hall and UConn. He has also taken an unofficial visit to Kansas.

Ranked by 247Sports Composite as the No. 36 overall prospect in the class of 2023, Middleton said he will choose the school that feels most like home. He also noted coaching staff as a deciding factor.

“I want coaches who are just the hardest on me probably,” Middleton said. “Coaches who aren’t going to tell me what I want to hear and just always be tough on me and challenge me to another level.”

Middleton has averaged 11.6 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.6 rebounds, while shooting 46 percent from the field and 30.7 percent from three-point range in five games during the Nike EYBL Kansas City Session.

“Not everybody wants to wake up in the morning and just be like ‘I’m going to lead my team.’,” Middleton said. “It’s all for my team, just rebounding, the grind of things, diving on the floor, deflections, talking and stuff like that.”
