CHICAGO — During the UAA finals, class of 2023 three-star point guard Vasean Allette was all over the court for Canada Elite, showcasing his energy and passion while leading his team to the tournament quarterfinals.
The 6-foot-3, 180-pound point guard from Thornlea Secondary School (Ontario) and the Canada Elite AAU program, dropped a weekend-high of 32 points against the Riverside Hawks on Thursday. He also dropped 26 points in the quarterfinals contest against West Coast Elite. Allette showed off his shot making ability all tournament, and the point guard said that’s one of his biggest strengths.
“I’ve been labeled a scorer my whole life,” Allette said. “But my passion level is on the same level as my scoring. I just bring energy to the game, day in and day out. I treat every game like it’s my last, play hard, fight for loose balls. Every 50-50 ball is mine.”
Allette named three schools recruiting him hardest at the UAA finals —Arizona State, UCSB and Tennessee State. He said there are more schools involved, but those are the three off the top of his head. He broke down each option:
Arizona State: “I recently got off a zoom call with the assistant coach. He introduced himself to me and my family after offering me. They showed me the campus a little bit over a zoom call, talked about their program. We’ve built a relationship.”
UCSB: “They offered me a while back, so I’ve built a relationship with the head coach, coach Joe [Pasternack]. We talk every day, keep a relationship and keep a bond.”
Tennessee State: “The head coach, the assistant coach, they all talk to me constantly. They’ve built a good relationship with me and my family.”
Allette has not taken any official visits yet and he doesn’t know when he’ll start. The point guard did provide some other recruitment timeline updates, however.
“The first time I will narrow a list, me and my family were talking about it, will probably be mid or late November,” Allette said. “I’ll do a top ten. But I don’t know when I’ll come out with my commitment yet.”
Allette said something important in his recruitment is having the head coach keep in contact with him.
“The head coach is the one who’s going to play you at the end of the day,” Allette said. “So that’s something I look into. Also training facilities, programs, team doctors, stuff like that to make sure I’m taken care of.”
Kyle Lowry is Allette’s favorite player and he said he tries to replicate the energy he brings. Growing up, Allette’s dream school was UCLA.
