CHICAGO — Class of 2023 four-star shooting guard Rodney Brown will visit Tennessee and Washington State in September, he tells ZAGSBLOG.com.
The 6-foot-5, 175-pound guard from Rancho Christian High School (CA) and the West Coast Elite AAU program, has already taken an official visit to California. Brown also unofficially visited USC and Grand Canyon.
Tennessee, California, USC and Grand Canyon were the four schools Brown said are recruiting him hardest. He gave a few thoughts about each program:
Tennessee: “They say they like my IQ and I could bring a lot to the team.”
California: “They are just saying they feel like I can help the team out a lot as soon as I step on the campus.”
USC: “They feel that with my game, I’m able to help the team. Obviously it’s going to take hard work, but they feel I could be an impact player for sure.”
Grand Canyon: “They like versatility and they think I could come in and help out the team.”
Brown said the coaches he’s formed close relationships with are Tennessee assistant Gregg Polinsky, California head coach Mark Fox and assistant Andrew Francis, USC assistant Eric Mobley and Grand Canyon assistant Jamall Walker.
The guard will be releasing some sort of top schools list, but he’s not sure when. Brown also isn’t sure about an ideal commitment time period. Ultimately, Brown is looking for a school that feels like home.
“I want to go somewhere I feel safe,” Brown said. “I want it to feel like a family so if I have a great relationship with the coaching staff, that’s where I’m going to be.”
Brown is ranked the No. 117 player nationally by 247Sports. He did not play for West Coast Elite at the UAA finals in Chicago because of a wrist injury, but he describes himself as a versatile combo guard.
“I can shoot it, get my teammates involved,” Brown said. “I’m just a guy who loves to play the game.”
The California native’s favorite NBA players are LeBron James and Devin Booker. Brown watches a lot of Booker’s games because he says the two have similar play styles.
