CHICAGO — Class of 2023 three-star shooting guard Courtney Anderson has seven schools recruiting him hardest, he tells ZAGSBLOG.com. Anderson named California, Santa Clara, Nevada, Colorado, Arizona State, Montana and USF.
The 6-foot-3, 165-pound shooting guard from Dublin High School (CA) and the West Coast Elite-Norcal AAU Program, broke down some of those options:
California: That’s the hometown school. They started recruiting me going into my junior year, so last year. I took an unofficial there, watched a game. So it’s been good over there. Assistant coach [Andrew] Francis calls me a lot and tells me how I can improve my game and keep getting better.”
Santa Clara: “The head coach, coach [Herb] Sendek, he’s been really heavy on my recruitment. I took an unofficial there too. He just shows me that he wants me to go there.”
Nevada: “I took an official there last October or November I think. So it was good going over there to see the campus, see the players and see how they like it and stuff.”
Colorado: “They just started picking up a lot since I’d say high school basketball season last year. I’ve been talking to the head coach [Tad Boyle] and they want me on campus for an official.”
Montana: “I would say the head coach [Travis DeCuire] talks to me most. I took an official there too, last October around the same time. I went to a football game. It was good seeing the campus and I enjoyed how the players and coaches were.”
For the next step in his recruitment, Anderson will go home and think about which schools he’d like to visit. He’s already taken official visits to Montana and Nevada, and he said plans on visiting Colorado and Santa Clara during football season. Anderson will be looking at a few key aspects when visiting schools.
“How players enjoy it,” Anderson said. “How my relationship is with the coaching staff. And then how my family enjoys it, because it’ll be my home soon.”
Anderson is eyeing to make his final college decision close to the start of the high school season.
During the UAA finals in Chicago, Anderson played a key role in helping his team get to the 17u championship game. Ultimately, West Coast Elite-Norcal fell to Team Thrill, 51-49, in overtime to finish in second place.
While in the class of 2023, Anderson is still just 16 years old. The No. 167 ranked player nationally, per 247Sports, said what makes him different is his IQ.
“I play the right way and I play hard,” Anderson said.
Anderson’s favorite NBA player is LeBron James and he’s a big Lakers fan. He added he watches players like Bradley Beal, Jason Tatum and Devin Booker to take bits and pieces from their game.
