Arkansas guard Nick Smith Jr., a projected lottery pick, has officially declared for the 2023 NBA Draft. The one-and-done prospect made the announcement on Twitter.

“This year has been an incredible journey, and I’m grateful for all the love and support I have received from my hometown and all the hog fans,” Smith Jr. said in his announcement post. “I want to express my gratitude to my coach, Muss, and the entire coaching staff, who believed in my abilities and allowed me the chance to play for Arkansas.”

Smith’s one season at Arkansas under Eric Musselman was riddled with injuries. He missed the first six games of the regular season, returned for two games, and then exited in the second half vs. Oklahoma and didn’t return for 13 contests.

The 6-foot-5, 185-pound guard from Jacksonville (AR), however, did close the season by appearing in every game from Mississippi State on Feb. 11 to the Razorback’s, 88-65, loss to UConn in the Sweet 16.

In total, Smith averaged 12.5 points, 1.7 assists and 1.6 rebounds per game in 17 contests. Arkansas highest-rated prospect in school history also shot 37.6% from the field and a 33.3% from 3.

“To my teammates, who have been with me through the highs and lows of the season, thank you for your support and camaraderie,” Smith Jr. said. “I wish you all the best in your future endeavors. Brothers for life.”

ESPN’s Jonathan Givony currently projects Smith Jr. as the No.7 overall pick to the Utah Jazz.
