Auburn small forward transfer Chance Westry has committed to Syracuse, per ESPN.
Westry, the 6-foot-6, 190-pound guard from Harrisburg (PA), redshirted this past season at Auburn due to having arthroscopic knee surgery in October. He was able to play just 105 minutes this previous year.
Coming out of high school, Westry was a highly touted prospect. His stellar play for Arizona Compass Prep School and the New York Renaissance secured him a top-40 ranking across all recruiting outlets in the class of 2022.
Westry was recruited by Syracuse out of high school.
“[Gerry] McNamara and I have had a close relationship for years,” Westry told ESPN. “He was actually one of the first high-major coaches that I spoke with when I was a freshman in high school, and also the first to extend an offer.
Westry continued: “So as soon as I entered the portal, he hit me, and he and Coach [Adrian] Autry made it clear that I was their priority and that they believed that I could have a big impact next season.”
Westry is the second player to commit to Autry at Syracuse from the portal, joining former five-star recruit JJ Starling. Syracuse has its three leading scorers from last year — Jesse Edwards, Joe Girard and Judah Mintz — either in the portal or testing NBA Draft waters.
Adding Westry was a huge get for Autry and the staff.
