Alabama and Nate Oats have landed Hofstra transfer guard Aaron Estrada. The 6-foot-3, 195-pound point guard announced the move via Twitter.
At Hofstra in 2022-23, Estrada averaged 20.2 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game. He’s been an elite guard for Hofstra in the Colonial Athletic Association, winning the conference player of the year award in back-to-back seasons.
Estrada is now a three time transfer. He started his career at Saint Peter’s in 2019-20 and then transferred to Oregon for his sophomore season. He will be using his fifth year of eligibility at Alabama.
The New Jersey native chose Alabama over Cincinnati, Florida State and Kansas State.
“I think (Nate) Oats is a great coach,” Estrada said to On3. “I knew I wanted to go there as soon as they contacted, but I was waiting to see if the basketball fit made sense for me and it did. I like the culture they have and their style of play matches mine. Coach Oats does well with player development and getting their guys to the next level.”
Estrada is the second transfer to commit to Alabama this offseason, joining Wichita State transfer guard Jaykwon Walton.
Picking up Estrada is especially important for the Crimson Tide considering point guard Jaden Bradley is in the portal and point guard Jahvon Quinerly has declared for the draft.
