Arizona State and Bobby Hurley have landed former four-star recruit and LSU center Shawn Phillips from the transfer portal. Phillips announced the move via Instagram.
Phillips, the 7-foot, 245-pound center from Dayton (OH), averaged just 1.4 points and 2.2 rebounds in 7.5 minutes per game for LSU last season. The big man never carved out a big role and played 20 total games.
The best game of his freshman campaign at LSU came against Georgia in the first round of the SEC Tournament. Phillips finished with a double-double — 13 points and 10 rebounds — to help LSU get the win.
Phillips was a four-star prospect in the class of 2022, ranking as the No. 120 overall recruit per 247Sports. He previously played high school basketball for Dream City Christian in Glendale (AZ). Arizona State’s campus well under an hour drive from his former school.
Hurley and Arizona State have been busy in the portal this offseason. Phillips is the Sun Devil’s fourth addition, joining former LSU guard Adam Miller, former San Francisco forward Zane Meeks and former Louisville forward Kamari Lands.
