Class of 2023 five-star power forward and former Texas signee Ron Holland will play with the G League Ignite next season, per Joe Tipton of On3.
Holland, the 6-foot-8, 195-pound forward from Duncanville (TX), requested out of his national letter of intent to Texas last month. Now, he will bypass college and take the professional route.
Holland was a highly touted recruit, ranking as the No. 2 overall player in the 2023 class by 247Sports.
Holland had previously committed and signed to Texas before Chris Beard was let go for an alleged domestic violence incident in January. When Rodney Terry was confirmed as Texas’ next head coach in late March, Holland reaffirmed his commitment to Texas.
The forward a month later though, ended up decommiting and re opened his recruitment.
Here is what Holland said to ESPN on his decision to choose the G League Ignite:
“This process was not easy. At times it was scary because at times I had no idea where I would be. The G League will help me reach my potential as a basketball player and prepare me for the NBA. To have a long career, I need to prepare my body and improve my skills as I continue to try to win games. They have a program to help develop my body and my game. I know I have to work on being a more consistent shooter, along with my footwork and ball handling, so I can score in space on the perimeter against a set defender.”
