North Dakota State transfer Grant Nelson, arguably the top remaining transfer in the portal, is expected to commit to Alabama, giving coach Nate Oats a major offensive weapon for the 2023-24 season, sources confirmed.
He visited both Alabama and Arkansas last week.
The 6-foot-11 native of Devils Lake, N.D. averaged 17.9 points on 52% shooting last season and 9.3 rebounds.
He attended the NBA Draft Combine in Chicago last month and then opted to withdraw from the draft and transfer.
“My plan — I want to stay in the draft,” Nelson told Mike McFeely at the NBA Combine. “That’s my main goal — get drafted this year. But I entered the transfer portal and kept my eligibility just as like, if anything does happen, I do have that to fall back on. But my main goal is to get drafted this year.”
Alabama retained veteran guards Jahvon Quinerly and Mark Sears while adding transfers Latrell Wrightsell Jr. (Cal State Fullerton) and Aaron Estrada (Hofstra).
The Tide has the No. 23 recruiting class for 2023 per 247Sports.com.
