Fresh off averaging 8.2 points and 6.8 rebounds with Expressions Elite at Peach Jam, 6-foot-11 Cardinal Hayes big man Steven Solano visited St. John’s on Monday.

St. John’s assistant Van Macon was at Peach Jam all week and has been in hot pursuit of the athletic, versatile big man.

“[It was a] great visit,” he said. “I really got to talk to [Rick] Pitino and coach [Steve] Masiello and see how they are changing this program with the development and the new coaching style. And the history as [a] legendary coach is unmatched in this game which is something you look for in a school.”

“Their message is [head coach Rick] Pitino is the greatest of all time,” Hayes coach Joe Lods told ZAGSBLOG. “Hard to dispute.

“Steven is really coming along. He has put on significant muscle at Hayes and he has really improved his footwork and scoring ability. He has tremendous work ethic and he is about to have a big senior year in the Catholic league. I would love to see Steven playing in Carnesecca Arena and Madison Square Garden.”

Solano has recently added offers from Northern Illinois, Eastern Michigan and Indiana State. He plans to take some more visits in August.
