International prospect Lee Aaliya has committed to Michigan and will be eligible to join the Wolverines’ roster next season, per Jonathan Givony of ESPN.
Aaliya — the 6-foot-9 forward from Argentina — chose Michigan over Providence and Miami, among others. The coveted big man received interest from over 50 Division I programs.
Aaliya became a highly-touted prospect after his performance in the U19 World Cup this past July. There, he averaged 17.1 points, 9.0 rebounds and 2.1 blocks en route to an All-Tournament team selection. Recently, Aaliya has spent time with the Argentinean senior national team to prepare for FIBA Olympic pre-qualifying tournament.
The big man instantly provides Juwan Howard with some depth in the frontcourt next season. Aaliya will join shooting guard George Washington III in the class of 2023. Other notable newcomers from the Wolverines include Tennessee transfer Olivier Nkamhoua, Seton Hall transfer Tray Jackson and Alabama transfer Nimari Burnett.
