With their 89-74 rout of Georgetown on Saturday, No. 1 UConn won its 12th straight game –the most in the Big East since Villanova won a dozen straight in 2015.
The 12-game winning streak — which includes five in a row on the road — is tied for the 7th longest in league history, and the fourth most in program history. Villanova holds the record with 22 consecutive wins.
Coach Dan Hurley’s club has won 37 of its last 41 games, including their run to the program’s fifth national championship last spring. Their last loss came at Seton Hall on Dec. 20, with their only other loss since last March 10 coming at Kansas on Dec. 1.
Alex Karaban rebounded from an ankle injury to put up 25 points, Stephon Castle added 17 and Cam Spencer and Samson Johnson 10 apiece for the Huskies (22-2, 12-1 Big East).
UConn led 52-26 at the half but barely outscored the Hoyas 37-36 in the second and were scolded by Hurley.
“We know that we have a chance to do something big this year,” Castle said told reporters. “We don’t want to ruin that by doing the human nature stuff that Coach talks about when we think we’re better than a team and don’t come ready to play.”
