Wesley Cardet Jr. is headed to Providence.
The 6-foot-6 junior guard from Tallahassee, Fla., averaged 18.7 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.6 assists as a junior at Chicago State while shooting 44% from the field and 34% from deep.
Cardet is the fourth incoming transfer for coach Kim English and his staff, following Georgia guard Jabri Abdur-Rahim, Saint Joseph’s big man Christ Essandoko and Miami guard Bensley Joseph. Cardet and Abdur-Rahim had dinner together Saturday in Providence.
“For me it’s always the fit and how I’ll be used,” Cardet told ZAGSBLOG. “At 6’6” most coaches automatically view me as a ‘wing’ but that’s not my position. The previous two years I played the lead guard at Chicago State. Coach English has the same vision as my former coach Gillion, which made my decision to be a Friar easy.”
He added: “I think I’m the best two-way player in college. Friar fans will get a scorer that loves to defend.”
