INDIANAPOLIS — Jasper Johnson, a five-star in the class of 2025 out of Link Academy (MO.), reopened his recruitment just over one week ago and updated where things stand following Day 1 of the Nike EYBL Live Period in Indianapolis.
The 6-foot-5 combo guard dropped 20 points on 6-of-8 shooting in Team Thad’s 68-46 win over MoKan Elite on Friday.
He mentioned Baylor, Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisville, North Carolina, Ohio State and Auburn, among others, have reached out the most recently since reopening.
Johnson has long held an offer from Baylor, but the relationship has picked up since former Link Academy head coach Bill Armstrong took a position at Baylor.
“He’s been reaching out to me,” he said. “Me and Coach Bill have a great relationship, he was at the game today and he’ll probably give me a call after but, yeah, me and coach are really close.”
He also has been reoffered by new head coach Mark Pope at Kentucky, where his father, Dennis Johnson, played football in the 90s.
“It means a lot,” Johnson said. “A head coach that really trusts me and believes that I can impact this team from Day 1.”
Meanwhile Hubert Davis of North Carolina and Bruce Pearl of Auburn have not been forgotten as other schools see staff changes.
“Me and all the coaches at the same programs are close… Coach Pearl and Coach Davis, they’ve been talking to me and my parents, building a relationship.”
Johnson has no upcoming visits but wants to see Baylor, Illinois, Arkansas and Ohio State, among others.
