NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – Day 2 of the CHSAA showcase is underway on Saturday as Stepinac, Nazareth, Bishop Molloy, St. Raymond’s and several others display New York’s top talent this weekend at Iona Prep.
**Hassan Koureissi, a four-star in the class of 2026 out of Stepinac, had a nice game Friday against Nazareth showing his shifty handle, crafty footwork on finishes around the rim and an ability to create separation to open up his jumper.
“I just have to look the part,” he told ZAGSBLOG. “My skills have gotten me here, now it’s time to look the part, show I have a college body and would be able to compete in college games.”
The 6-foot-3 guard has heard from Notre Dame, La Salle, VCU, Pepperdine, UMass, San Diego, and others, since the contact period for rising juniors opened up on June 15. Koureissi is working toward offers
“I’m glad I got all the interests,” he said. “Now, I’m just trying to watch more basketball and see where I might fit in.”
**Halon Rawlins, a 6-foot-6 wing in the class of 2025 out of Nazareth, continues to lead the Brooklyn based school, showing an improved jumper and consistent defense. He drove to the hoop a good amount, constantly drawing defenders and making the right reads for quality shots. He is a strong defender who blocks shots and uses his strength to his advantage.
“I’m an all around player and probably the best two-way player in New York,” he said.
Seton Hall, Oklahoma, Providence and Iona have been in touch the most recently.
He took a visit to Seton Hall during the high school season.
“The assistant coach Rasheen Davis is a good guy,” he said. “He brought me around Seton Hall and we watched their practice. It was an unofficial.”
Rawlins also took a visit to Iona this past week.
“They really want me,” he said. “He [Toben Anderson] said I’m there No. 1 recruit. I love how they play fast.”
Oklahoma and Providence have yet to offer Rawlins, though they are in contact with his coach.
**Jasiah Jervis, a four-star in the class of 2026 out of Stepinac, is a shifty guard who aggressively gets downhill and finishes strong at the rim. With the loss of five-star Boogie Fland, Jervis will take on more of the scoring for the Crusaders next season, alongside Koureissi. Jervis often matches up with the opponent’s top option and uses his strong build to shut them down.
“I’m showing that I’m a team player and that I can lead,” he said. “I can do everything on the court: I’m a three-level scorer who can play defense and do anything to win.”
Notre Dame, Iowa State, ECU, Temple and Quinnipiac, among others have reached out to Jervis so far.
Seton Hall offered the young guard on Sunday, along with Quinnipiac who also offered his teammate Dylan Perry.
He briefly recapped the high major interest.
Notre Dame: “I had a great conversation with the coach on the phone,” he said. “I’m really looking forward to hopefully getting an offer from them an visiting the school.”
Iowa State: “I had a conversation with their coach too,” he said. “He’s a cool guy and they’re really like a family.”
**Adonis Ratliff, a 6-foot-9 forward in the class of 2026 and son of former NBA All-Star Theo Ratliff, took over in Friday’s win over Nazareth. The Stepinac product drilled over seven threes as he constantly stretched the floor and blocked shots on the defensive end.
“I’ve always been able to shoot,” he said. “I started working out with an NBA shooting trainer when I was really young so it just followed me to this point.”
“Blocking shots came from my dad,” he continued. “But I’m trying to show I can handle the ball, pass, rebound and do everything on the court.”
UCF, UMass and Louisville are three programs who have reached out the most recently.
“UCF has been recruiting me hard,” he said. “They just got a whole new coaching staff and I’m familiar with some of them. I also like how the team is made up.”
“I want to attend a program where I can bring the ball up, play versatile, and play defense, with a good coach and a good system,” he concluded.
**Josh Rivera, a 6-foot-7 wing out of Stepinac, earned an offer from St. Bonaventure Sunday.
