John Calipari has added another player for his first season as the head coach of Arkansas, securing class of 2024 three-star point guard Casmir Chavis, per reports. Joe Tipton of On3 was first with the news.
Chavis, the 6-foot-2, 180-pound combo guard from Park Center (MN), was originally signed to Washington but was released out of his NLI after Washington parted ways with Mike Hopkins. Chavis will now be a Razorback.
“I decided to choose Arkansas because the development I can get from the coaching staff is one of the best in the country and how good the community is towards the team,” Chavis told On3. “Plus the relationship we built made it better just getting to know each other. Coach Calipari has been able to get previous players in my position to the NBA so that’s why I ended up choosing Arkansas.”
Chavis will join some big-name freshman at Arkansas in five-stars Boogie Fland, Karter Knox and Billy Richmond. Calipari also brings in quite the newcomer portal class including former Kentucky players DJ Wagner, Adou Thiero and Zvonimir Ivisic, as well as former Tennessee forward Jonas Aidoo and former Florida Atlantic guard Johnell Davis.
