NEW YORK — Xavion Staton, a four-star big man in the class of 2025, is down to six schools including Arizona, BYU, Michigan, Stanford, UNLV and USC, he told ZAGSBLOG at the UA Next Elite 24 scrimmage in Brooklyn last Friday.
The 7-footer, and Nevada Gatorade Player of the Year, has visits setup with all of the programs, except Arizona.
Staton broke down each programs after the scrimmage:
Arizona: “I’ve had great conversations with them, but it’s fallen off a little bit, [though] not enough for me to take them off my list.”
BYU (Nov. 2): “They’re [the staff] all great. I met almost all of their coaching staff and they’re great guys. The town seems pretty nice and I’ll see it once I take a visit. I’m excited to get to learn about their program too because they were kind of a latecomer in the offers list but their program that they initially set me up with was really enjoyable. So, being able to keep them on my list, experience them more and see what they’re all about.”
Michigan (Sept. 9): “Coach Dusty May and coach Joiner have been my two biggest supporters that are not in my hometown. They’ve been following me, FaceTiming and keeping me in the loop. I really enjoy talking to them and their coaching staff as well, so I look forward to the visit.”
Stanford (Oct. 11): “Stanford’s is great. From what I’ve heard, it’s a beautiful campus. The coaching staff is amazing. They believe in me and especially with them being a high academic school, it’s something to consider as well. I take my grades seriously and my family keeps me pushing forward.”
UNLV (Oct. 26): “They’re right around the corner. I just watched one of their scrimmages recently. It’s the hometown. The coaching staff is always at my games. There’s not much you can say about the hometown but I’ve loved the support.
USC (Oct. 5): “I’ve been talking to him [Eric Musselman], I FaceTime him often. I saw him out a bunch out NBA Summer League. He’s a great guy, a great coach and has a history of great teams. I’ve also been talking to coach [Quincy] Pondexter a little bit, but they have a great coaching staff.”
