  • INTEL: Breaking down the top-100 prospects and their recruitments

    Share Zagsblog Share Zagsblog
By ADAM ZAGORIA, SAM LANCE & CHARLIE PARENT

It’s now a recruiting period for college basketball and several prospects are starting to really get down to business with their recruitments. With that, you need to know the latest on what’s happening with all of the top prospects.

Here’s the latest intel on every player in the top-100. For commits, you can click on their name for the ZAGSBLOG commitment story. For players without a final decision, click the names for the latest story.

    #1 A.J. Dybantsa

    • Schools involved: Top seven of Alabama, Auburn, Baylor, BYU, Kansas, Kansas State and North Carolina.
    • Official visits set: None.
    • Other visits taken: BYU (Oct. 11-13), Alabama (Sept. 27-29), North Carolina (Sept. 20-22), Kansas (Sept. 6-8), Kansas State (Aug. 30-Sept. 1), Auburn official in March, BYU unofficial in June.
Dybantsa’s recruitment may be the most up in the air for a top prospect in recent memory. It’s really hard to tell which way this one is leaning. Alabama has the best relationship-in with assistant coach Preston Murphy being Dybantsa’s former AAU coach with Expressions Elite. And Dybantsa visited Bama while seeing one of the greatest college football games/atmospheres in recent memory. BYU is in great position, receiving an unofficial visit and getting Dybantsa’s last official.

Kansas State had a great visit to kick things off and has been in hot pursuit. Ace Dybantsa, A.J.’s father, said the Kansas visit went “great,”. Recently, Dybantsa canceled his official visit to Baylor, and he will not reschedule.

With all this being said, ZAGSBLOG could see Dybantsa picking any of his finalists, minus Baylor with them not receiving an official visit. This recruitment is still far from over before a decision in February.

#2 Cameron Boozer — Duke Commit

#3 Darryn Peterson — Kansas Commit

    #4 Nate Ament

    • Schools involved: Duke, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, UConn and Virginia.
    • Official visits set: Notre Dame (Nov. 9), Kansas State (Feb. 11).
    • Other visits taken: Tennessee (Oct. 19), Louisville (Oct. 11), Duke (Oct. 4), Texas (Sept. 27), Virginia unofficials (October 2022 and January 2024). Duke unofficial (September 2023).
Ament has been one of the fastest rising players in America. The 6-foot-8 versatile wing is now a consensus top-five recruit. Ament originally had two official visits scheduled to Virginia and Kentucky, but per Travis Branham, those were pushed back and Ament will take his time with his recruitment.

Since then, Ament has taken visits to Texas, Duke, Louisville and Tennessee and has Notre Dame and Kansas State upcoming. It’s likely this decision stretches out a while until the spring, especially with a Kansas State visit scheduled for early February. This recruitment has a long way to go and any school could make a late push. Monitoring his visits will be important.

#5 Darius Acuff — Arkansas Commit

    #6 Koa Peat

    • Schools involved: Top five of Arizona, Arizona State, Baylor, Houston, and Texas.
    • Official visits set: None.
    • Other visits taken: Baylor (Oct. 24-26), Arizona (Oct. 4), Arizona State (Aug. 30), Houston (June 2024). Michigan, North Carolina and Texas all last year.
Koa Peat has a top five of Arizona, Arizona State, Baylor, Houston and Texas. He’s visited all of his finalists, so a decision could be looming. No commitment date has been set yet.

The power forward has shown loyalty to his hometown teams before, opting against the prep route and staying with Perry for all four years of high school. Arizona and Arizona State could be the schools to look out for.

    #7 Mikel Brown Jr.

    • Schools involved: Alabama, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisville, Ole Miss, Providence, Texas and UCF.
    • Official visits set: UCF (Nov. 4), Arizona (Nov. 21). Per 247Sports.
    • Other visits taken: Maryland (Oct. 25), Kentucky (Sept. 27), Indiana (Sept. 13), Alabama, Ole Miss and UCF in January/February 2024.
Brown Jr. is regarded as one of the best shot and playmakers in the 2025 class. He recently transferred to DME Academy (FL), an Adidas sponsored program, and played with Team Loaded on the Adidas 3SSB circuit this summer. Brown has also signed a high school NIL deal with Adidas. It would be wise to look out for the Adidas schools listed above. Overall, Brown’s recruitment has been pretty quiet. Monitoring visits will again be key.

    #8 Caleb Wilson

    • Schools involved: Top 12 of Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Duke, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, North Carolina, Ohio State, Oregon, Tennessee, UCF and USC.
    • Official visits set: None.
    • Other visits taken: Ohio State (Oct. 26), Tennessee (Oct. 11), North Carolina (Oct. 4), UCF (Sept. 27-29), Kentucky (Sept. 13). Auburn, Alabama, Tennessee, Stanford, Kentucky, Georgia Tech. USC unofficial Aug. 22.
Wilson and his family have been casting a wide net with a lot of schools in the mix. He took a bunch of visits last year and has taken several this fall as well. Wilson enjoyed his visit to Kentucky, and seemed to make a recruiting pitch to another Kentucky target Acaden Lewis. Click “here” for the Kentucky visit recap via ZAGSBLOG.

Recently Wilson canceled his visit to Alabama and took a second visit to UNC. Read here for his UNC visit recap. Wilson also tripped Tennessee and Ohio State and will visit Arkansas the weekend of Nov. 1.

John Calipari, Bruce Pearl and Hubert Davis all saw him in the last week. He had a visit set with Arkansas but he didn’t make the visit and it’ll be rescheduled.

Wilson’s father Jerry said no timeline has been set: “It could be next week, could be next month, could be next year. It’s a very fluid situation that could get sticky at any point if all the right ingredients are put together.”

    #9 Brayden Burries

    • Schools involved: Arizona, Duke, Houston, Oregon, UCLA, USC and others.
    • Official visits set: Oregon.
    • Other visits taken: USC (unofficial), Alabama (Sept. 27). Arizona (February 2024). Unofficial to UCLA.
ZAGSBLOG caught up with Burries at the Team USA minicamp in Colorado Springs. Burries commented on several schools in the mix like Duke, Oregon, USC and others. He’ll be taking an official visit to Oregon this month and doesn’t have any other officials set in stone. This recruitment overall has been quiet and there’s no concrete information on where Burries may be leaning.

Read here for the full story from USA minicamp.

    #10 Chris Cenac

    • Schools involved: Top seven of Arkansas, Auburn, Baylor, Houston, Kentucky, LSU and Tennessee.
    • Official visits set: Baylor (Nov. 2), LSU (Nov. 9),
    • Other visits taken: Arkansas (Oct. 19), Kentucky (Sept. 27), Auburn (Sept. 20), Tennessee (Sept. 13), Houston (Aug. 30). Unofficial to Houston (September 2023). No officials taken yet.
Cenac landed in the top 10 recruits following a NBA top 100 Camp MVP performance. The 6-foot-10 forward has earned over 20 offers since April, and has gained some buzz in light of his transfer to Nike EYBL Scholastic program Link Academy.

Cenac narrowed his list to seven schools. Hometown school LSU is heavily in the mix alongside Kentucky. Houston has been around for a while and landed the first visit. Cenac recently added the Baylor visit and took Arkansas.

“I’m just ready to get these visits done and then I’ll have a decision around when I’ll do it [commit],” Cenac said.

    #29 Shon Abaev

    • Schools involved: Top five of Arkansas, Arizona State, Auburn, Cincinnati and Oregon.
    • Official visits set: None.
    • Other visits taken: Arkansas (Oct. 9-11), Cincinnati (Oct. 2-3), Auburn (Sept. 20-21), USC (Sept. 13-14), Dayton (Aug. 23-24), Syracuse (Aug. 30-31). Tennessee (January 2024), Arizona State and Georgia in June 2024. Oregon in March 2024.
Arkansas is the latest to offer Abaev and he has now visited. The Razorbacks also made his final list, along with Arizona State, Auburn, Cincinnati and Oregon. Arizona State has been a regular fixture at his workouts. Abaev has visited all of his finalists but doesn’t have a commitment date.

“I don’t have an official time line yet,” Abaev said. “I feel like this is a decision I want to talk with me and my family [about] and make the best decision for me.”

    #30 Mouhamed Sylla

    • Schools involved: Alabama, Arizona State, Duke, Georgia Tech, Kansas, Missouri, Oregon, Washington.
    • Official visits set:
    • Other visits taken: Kansas (Oct. 21), Georgia Tech (Oct. 26).
Sylla has come to the states from the NBA Academy in Africa. The 6-foot-10, 240-pound center is now at Bella Vista Prep (AZ). He had a breakout summer and is getting looks from a number of college programs.

In a recent interview with 247Sports, Sylla named visits to Kansas and Georgia Tech and said he’s planning trips to Alabama and Duke. Arizona State, Missouri, Oregon and Washington are involved as well.

    #31 Niko Bundalo

    • Schools involved: Top four of Michigan State, North Carolina, Ohio State and UConn.
    • Official visits set: None.
    • Other visits taken: North Carolina (Oct. 4), Ohio State (Sept. 21), Michigan State (Sept. 9), UConn (Aug. 30), Ohio State unofficial (June 2023). Pitt unofficial (August 2023). Duke, Michigan State unofficials (Sept. 2023). Notre Dame unofficial (October 2023). UCLA unofficial (January 2024).
Bundalo has dropped some big news recently, transferring to Prolific Prep to join Darryn Peterson. And now he’s down to four schools. Bundalo would like to decide before the early signing period in November. UNC and UConn could be the schools to look out for here, as Michigan State and Ohio State both landed players at his position (Cam Ward and Amare Bynum) on Oct. 22. It’s been rumored Bundalo could reopen his recruitment.

Per his AAU coach, Bundalo has “no idea” where he’s going at the moment.

“He’s thinking a lot about his schools and their rosters for next year and what they may look like,” Ryan Bernardi told ZAGSBLOG. “I wouldn’t expect him to know where he wants to go until maybe December.”

#32 Acaden Lewis — Kentucky Commit

#33 Davis Fogle — Gonzaga Commit

#34 Kiyan Anthony — Syracuse Commit

    #35 Jerry Easter

    • Schools involved: Baylor, Cincinnati, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Harvard, Maryland, Miami, Michigan State, Mississippi State, Ohio State, Oregon, SMU and USC.
    • Official visits set: Vanderbilt (Oct. 26), USC (Nov. 2).
    • Other visits taken: Ohio State (Oct. 4-6), SMU (Sept. 21), Ohio State unofficial (October 2022), Georgia Tech official (September 2023). Michigan State unofficial (September 2023). Oregon official (March 2024).
Easter gave ZAGSBLOG a lot of good updates at Link Academy. He recapped his official visit to SMU, and he said he doesn’t have any other visits set at the moment. Easter added he isn’t going to narrow it down.

“I might just pick a school to be honest, Easter told ZAGSBLOG. “I don’t see a point in narrowing it down. I know everybody does that, but I’ll probably just pick a school.”

Easter would like to commit in early November before Link’s season starts. SMU is the school to watch closely. Easter is friends with commits Jaden Toombs and Jermaine O’Neal Jr. at SMU. Ohio State now has a commitment from his Link teammate Amare Bynum, so that could be a school to watch as well. Read here for the latest story on Easter after he hit a game-winning shot in Link’s second preseason game.

#37 Davion Hannah — Alabama Commit

#38 London Jemison — Alabama Commit

Williams-Adams has cut his list down to four schools and told ZAGSBLOG he will make a decision in November around the signing period. He’s visited all of his finalists. It’s all up to a decision now.

    • Official visits set: None.
    • Other visits taken: Syracuse (January 2024), Maryland unofficial (January 2024), Auburn (December 2023).
Jackson’s recruitment has been quiet. Last time ZAGSBLOG caught up with the explosive Overtime Elite point guard, he discussed the possibility of playing with Kiyan Anthony at Syracuse and said he wants to bring a national title to the Orange. In a recent interview with On3, Jackson said Mississippi State, Oklahoma State and TCU are the most involved and he would like to set visits to those schools. Syracuse seems to have lost some traction.
