Fresh off a visit this past weekend, class of 2025 four-star shooting guard Matthew Able has committed to Miami. The 6-foot-5, 190-pound guard from Sagemont Prep (FL) and the Austin Rivers SE Elite AAU program chose the Hurricanes over the other schools in his top eight including Baylor, Boston College, Michigan, Northwestern, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest and Xavier.

“I would definitely say the family like environment,” Able said of why he chose the Hurricanes to 247Sports. “Coach Jim Larranaga and coach Bill Courtney were amazing… They showed me their vision of what they had for me.”

Able was a high-riser in the rankings this summer due to his outstanding play with Austin Rivers SE Elite.

“It was amazing,” Able said of his recruitment surge. “It was kind of surreal. I put in the work and everything so for it to pay off… I’m just excited.”

During 3SSB’s last session at Rock Hill, Able averaged 22.2 points per game and shot 25-of-46 (54.3%) from 3-point range. He is known for his shooting and scoring ability.

“They put three guards in the league the last few years,” Able said. “Their plan and vision is for me to come in and compete for minutes and a starting spot… They are getting an elite shooter, a great scorer and a great person as well.”

Able becomes Jim Larrañaga’s first commit in the 2025 class. Miami is also recruiting the Boozer twins and they have several prospects with official visits set in stone such as Jaden Toombs, Ryan Crotty, Jerry Easter, Isaiah Denis, Trey McKenney and Chance Mallory. Dates for those officials can be found here.

Able’s father is Doug Able, who played college basketball at Boston College. He also has a little brother.
