Class of 2025 three-star point guard and Colorado commit Isaiah Johnson will take his official visit to Boulder on the weekend of Sept. 21, he told ZAGSBLOG.
Johnson — the 6-foot-1, 170-pound guard from Campbell Hall School (CA) and the BTI Basketball Club — committed to the Buffaloes on Aug. 15. He credits his decision to the relationships established with head coach Tad Boyle and the entire coaching staff.
“[Boyle] introduced himself to me around June,” Johnson said. “That’s kind of when we first got into contact out there at Section 7. Ever since then we’ve had Zoom calls with my family. He talked to my parents a lot. And really just the whole coaching staff has been there for me. I think that’s the real reason why I committed.”
This summer, Johnson was instrumental in BTI Basketball becoming champions of the PUMA 2024 PRO16 17U league. He describes himself as a versatile guard.
“I’m a point guard, but for my AAU team I had my teammate Nikolas Khamenia, and he also played on the ball,” Johnson said. “So I’m able to play on the ball, off the ball. And I just make plays for my teammates and make good reads.”
He projects to have a similar role with the Buffaloes.
“Being able to play off the ball, that’s something me and the coaching staff has talked about because they want to play two guards,” Johnson said. “So being able to play on the ball, make reads, and being able to play off the ball, catch and shoot. Play point-five basketball.”
Johnson is currently Colorado’s only commit in the 2025 class. Therefore, he will be working on recruiting some other players to join him. He just doesn’t have specific names yet.
“Me and the coaching staff have talked about it,” Johnson said. “They are going to send me a few players that they would like to come play with me. So it’ll be my job to definitely help recruit and bring some of those guys to Colorado.”
Even though he’s committed, Johnson hasn’t been on Colorado’s campus yet. He’s really looking forward to the visit. Colorado will play its first Big 12 football game that weekend against Baylor.
“Definitely seeing all the facilities they have and seeing the kids too,” Johnson said of what he’s excited for. “The fanbase. Just seeing how they interact with each other and then definitely the team as well.”
One of Johnson’s main hobbies outside of basketball is playing video games. Of course, he plays EA College Football 25 and has a Colorado dynasty. He’s ecstatic to be on campus during the Deion Sanders era.
“It’s cool to be there,” Johnson said. “It just makes the fanbase, the students — it just makes everyone more intrigued. You always want to play on the biggest stage so just being around those kind of people makes you better as well.”
Johnson is ranked the No. 52 overall point guard in the 2025 class by 247Sports, giving him three-star status. The point guard said he has one of the best basketball IQ’s in his class, and that’s what makes him unique.
Here’s what Johnson thinks Colorado fans should know about him:
“They’re getting a great kid,” Johnson said. “You know, aside from the basketball part, I grew up in a household with both parents and a sister. They raised me pretty well. Good manners. Just high energy. Just a fun person to be around. And exiting on the court as well. They should be looking forward to watching me play the next few years.”
Johnson isn’t the only hooper in his family. In fact, both of his parents played college basketball. His father, Chris Johnson, played at Texas A&M Kingsville while his mother, Naima Johnson, hooped at UTRGV. The point guard also has a younger sister who plays high school volleyball.
A fun fact about Johnson is that he plays the steel drum.
