“I just like how honest [Capel] was with me,” Witherspoon said of his decision to 247Sports. “He didn’t gas me up, say you’re going to come here and play, do this and that. He was real with me and he just let me know he’s going to coach me. He’s going to coach me hard everyday. But I have to go out there and compete on the court.
Witherspoon continued:
“I really like Pitt’s playstyle. I feel like it really fit me well. So overall, I felt like it was the best choice for me.”
This summer with DC Premier, Witherspoon led his team in both points and assists. Across 16 games he averaged 14.7 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game while shooting 41% from the field and 26% from 3-point range.
Witherspoon committed after taking his official visit this past weekend. He is ranked the No. 101 overall prospect in the 2025 class by 247Sports.
“You’re going to get a hard worker for sure,” Witherspoon said of his message to Pitt fans. “I’m going to come in, work hard from day one. And when I get there, I just want to win. So I’m going to do whatever it takes to get there and win for this program.”
Capel now has the ball rolling with his 2025 recruiting class. Pitt is in the mix with several prospects and have received official visits or have official visits scheduled with Derek Dixon (April), Amari Evans (June), Isaiah Denis (Aug. 30) and Davion Hannah (Oct. 19), among others.
