One week after landing the second-highest ranked recruit in program history, Chris Collins is at it again. This time, he’s secured four-star guard Jake West.
West — 6-foot-3, 165-pound guard from William Penn Charter (PA) and the Team Final Nike EYBL AAU program — chose Northwestern over his other finalists Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, Florida and VCU.
“I will be committing to Northwestern,” he told ZAGSBLOG ahead of his public announcement. “The style of play and the relationship with the staff and players are the biggest factors along with playing in one of the best conferences in the country [the Big Ten].”
He added: “I’m going to bring leadership and competitiveness from Day One. I’m gonna compete, not take any plays off and be a leader by being vocal and bringing energy. I’ll do whatever it takes to win.”
This past summer playing with Team Final, West averaged 14.1 points and 4.0 assists over 15 games. He was invited to the SLAM High School event at Rucker Park as well. There, he competed in the dunk contest and the SLAM game.
West is entering his senior season at Penn Charter and has his eyes on a state title.
“I have to be a leader,” West said. “I’m a point guard and I’m a senior, so I have to be a leader of this team. We have five returning juniors back so we’re excited.”
