Georgetown head coach Ed Cooley put an end to rumors linking him to the open coaching job Virginia Wednesday in a statement on Fox Sports.

Speculation surfaced online Tuesday after Virginia’s long-time coach Tony Bennett announced his retirement last week.

“There’s zero truth to that,” he said in a video posted on Fox Sports social medias. “I’m where I need to be, I’m where I want to be. This will be the last college job I have. My goal is to make Georgetown basketball powerful again, [and] inspire other people. That’s all false news.”

Cooley, who took over Georgetown in 2023 after a successful run at Providence, went 9-23 last season, marking the program’s third-consecutive 20-loss season.
