While opinions and rumors continue to fly surrounding Indiana’s search for a new head coach next season, St. John’s head coach Rick Pitino thinks the decision is quite simple.

“If I was the AD at Indiana I would immediately not even interview anybody else and hire one of the premiere coaches in all of college basketball and that’s Chris Beard,” Pitino told ESPN’s Pardon My Take on Friday. “I wouldn’t even think about another person, he’s perfect for that job.”

Chris Beard has led No. 24 Ole Miss to a 19-7 record in a brutal SEC conference this season and has been linked to Indiana recently, including when he invoked the name of the legendary late former head coach Bob Knight in a win over Kentucky.

“That’s Bob Knight. Victory favors the most aggressive team, and the team that makes the fewest mistakes,” Beard told ESPN.

Many names have been linked to the head coach position at Indiana so far this season, including Michigan head coach Dusty May.
