NEW YORK — Duke head coach Jon Scheyer says associate head coach Jai Lucas is “absolutely” a “head coach” amid the news that he has been tabbed as the next head coach at Miami.

Following No. 3 Duke’s 110-67 rout of Illinois at Madison Square Garden, Scheyer was asked by NJ Advance Media if Lucas is ready to be a head coach.

“Absolutely, he’s a head coach,” Scheyer said. “No question about it. It’s part of why I hired him, you know, and the job he’s done for us has been incredible. Any report or anything that’s out there, you know, I’m just getting wind of it now, so we’ll cross that bridge and figure it out.
