The AP has announced its All-American teams. Duke’s Cooper Flagg and Auburn’s Johni Broome were unanimous selections to headline the First Team. Here’s how everything shaped out:

    First Team

    • Cooper Flagg — Duke
    • Johni Broome — Auburn
    • Braden Smith — Purdue
    • Walker Clayton Jr. — Florida
    • Mark Sears — Alabama

    Second Team

    • JT Toppin — Texas Tech
    • John Tonje — Wisconsin
    • PJ Haggerty — Memphis
    • Kam Jones — Marquette
    • RJ Luis — St. John’s

    Third Team

    • Hunter Dickinson — Kansas
    • Ryan Kalkbrenner — Creighton
    • Zakai Zeigler — Tennessee
    • Eric Dixon — Villanova
    • LJ Cryer — Houston

    Honorable Mentions

    • Chaz Lanier — Tennessee
    • Trey Kaufman-Renn — Purdue
    • Donovan Dent — New Mexico
    • Bennett Stirtz — Drake
    • Chucky Hepburn — Louisville
Flagg and Broome will likley be battling it out for National Player of the Year after the AP’s unanimous selection of the two on the First Team. Both have led their respective programs to the top two overall seeds in March Madness.

“He’s doing things nobody really has ever done before,” Duke coach Jon Scheyer said of Flagg. “And he’s not about numbers. I’m telling you, when this dude goes home, somebody says to him, ‘Man, you had 42, six and seven,’ he’ll say, ‘Ok, cool.’ That’s not what he’s about, which to me makes it even better because you can get caught up with that, especially as a young player.”

Joining the three on the first team is a series of guards — Smith, Sears and Clayton Jr. — who all averaged 16+ points and 4+ assists per game. Smith was second in the nation with 8.7 assists per contest.

The Second Team is headlined by three transfers. Toppin went from New Mexico to Texas Tech, Tonje from Missouri to Wisconsin, and Haggerty from Tulsa to Memphis. It also features two of the best players in the Big East this season in Jones and Luis.

Dickinson and Kalkbrenner headline the Third Team and have now been on an All-American team for a third-straight year. Cryer was an Honorable Mention last year but now has a spot on the Third Team.
